Practicing What They Learned

Sittwe, Rakhine State, Myanmar

Sittwe is the capital of Rakhine State in western Myanmar. After having done Transformational Community Development (TCD) training twice in Sittwe, we were amazed to see the progress taking place in this area. The first TCD Level I training was done early in 2014, with around 30 local people representing five villages nearby.

A few days after the training, it was reported that the five villages practiced what they learned within their community. TCD committees were formed, and they initiated projects using local resources. For example, they repaired the bridge, dug the water well, celebrated a football game, repaired the pavement, and held an award ceremony to the outstanding students within the village.

As a result, GHNI has hired a staff person to do more training and manage the work there. A couple of TCD staff will also travel from Yangon periodically to help the cultivation of new projects. There has already been considerable development in the villages near Sittwe as a result of people applying the TCD training they received.
