Progress in Spite of Semi-Lockdown

North Thailand TCD Expansion

In December, for the first time in nearly seven months, there was a significant outbreak of COVID-19 in Thailand. As a result, travel restrictions and various levels of lockdown went into effect around the country. Unfortunately, this restriction meant that the GHNI team was not allowed to personally visit the villages as they are in a neighbouring province.

However, Atid* and his family are building a new house and have planted a garden. Recently, Atid and his wife have expanded it and are now re-planting crops. They value enriching their soil, gardening naturally, and are using several local resources as well as products from the local market to better prepare the soil in their garden for this upcoming growing season. We are excited to see their commitment to the natural, local growth of healthy foods in their community.

Though the semi-lockdown status put some plans on hold, there was still progress in the village. Atid, our Man of Peace, expressed interest in planting fruiting trees on the land around his new home that he is building in the community. GHNI teammates were able to introduce the idea of agroforestry with him and now Atid seems committed to instituting some of these principles in his future plans. Further training will be necessary.

Thank you!
