Providing Options for Income

Harowayo Village, Ethiopia

Muche is 25 years old and living in Harowayo Village. She is married and has two children, who are two and four years old. Muche did not have a source of income, so economically she was dependent on her husband. When I spoke with her she was thinking about her children’s future. She plans to send her children to school, but with her husband’s limited income it is impossible to accomplish her plan. She said GHNI-Ethiopia came at the right time to her village, especially for her. “Now my eyes are open to how to make myself capable. I am now a member of the Income Generation Group and the Agriculture Group. I can see great hope in the near future,” she said. She also has her backyard farm, where she plants cabbages, onions, peppers, and potatoes.

We are working with the villagers to implement Transformational Community Development (TCD) to transform the community. All the TCD workers and committees held discussions with the villagers. In the next few months, we are planning to teach the community to build toilets for each household and to send their children to school. The Education Committee will be doing this.
