Recovered Alcoholic Becomes Successful

Chainpur Village, Nepal

This month, we shared Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons by visiting house-to-house and met people personally during this stressful time of COVID-19. We formed a Community Crisis Management Committee in this village. I shared about how to be careful during the crisis and to stay prepared. This will save lives and property. We have continued teaching and encouraging precautions for COVID-19 and following safety measures. This is the rainy season and many villagers are infected or affected by sickness. I taught them safety measures and the prevention of diseases and suggested that they receive a health checkup.

Ranajit* lives at Chainpur Village. He was poor and his financial condition was bad. He was an alcoholic and would beat his wife. His wife then divorced him. Everyone hated him in the village. When I met him and shared TCD ideas related to good health with him, he was interested to learn about TCD and joined the group. I continued to meet and encourage him. He quit drinking alcohol. He learnt many TCD lessons and Income Generation ideas. The TCD committee provided a loan as Seed Money. He started a copper pot making business. He laboured hard and earned money. He returned the Seed Money to the committee and has no lack of money to run his business. He also bought some goats and a buffalo. He became successful in this business as well. Continuing to learn from TCD lessons, he wants to encourage other villagers to be involved in the TCD programme and wants to give thanks to GHNI.

Thank you!
