Kiwanjani Village, Kenya
Kiwanjani Village is a vast area made of multiple ethnic groups. The area is facing a lot of challenges with drug abuse. Mothers are often the pillar of every family, and so Transformational Community Development (TCD) has made a conscious effort to reach women who are indulging in preparing and selling alcohol to the Kiwanjani villagers.
We moved with speed, looking for productive ways to get them out of the industry. We have started the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA). With the money saved and contributed, often by mothers, they have started looking for other ways of getting income.
Caroline was among those mothers who benefited from VSLA. Out of her contributed money, she has started a salon. She is using this money to provide for her family, school fees for her two sons, as well as other basic needs. She is testifying that the salon is going on well and her business is expanding, day-by-day. Caroline thanks TCD for coming up with VSLA.
Thank you!
