Selling Vegetables to a Nearby Town

Harowayo Village, Ethiopia

The Transformational Community Development (TCD) Programme in Harowayo Village brought great change. It was difficult to imagine the current progress of the Agriculture Group. Almost all the villagers were only engaged in animal husbandry, and their lives depended on their animals, for food and income. This was our target when we started TCD in the Borena Zone. The villagers are now selling vegetables to the nearest town, which in turn benefits the town residents as they can get fresh vegetables.

TCD Update

  • Water — The Water Committee is preparing and organising ponds to collect the rainwater for irrigation and drinking.
  • Food — The Food Committee is very effective in this area; they are helping the community along with the group that produces various vegetables. They are closely working with the government development agent.
  • Income Generation — The Income Generation Committee distributed goats two years ago and new kids have been given to other Income Generation group members.
  • Education — The Education Committee is helping the community to send their children to school. School attendance used to be very good but the security issue made the numbers decline.
  • Wellness — The Wellness Committee served the community by bringing awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and teaching about hand-washing.

Thank you!
