Solving the Water Supply Issue

Sulawesi, Indonesia

The newly formed Mawa Transformational Community Development (TCD) committee met earlier this month to discuss their previous plans to solve the water supply problem in their village. After counting up the money that all of the families in the community had pitched in, they decided they had enough to begin their ambitious project.

In partnership with GHNI, in late July the Mawa community began digging and digging away. They diverted a stream located 700 metres from their village and worked hard to find a spring that could be utilised to become the source for the water tank they plan to build. The TCD training team was touched to see their inspired work. Those who could not help dig kept a steady flow of snacks and drinks available.

Digging through the rock was laborious, and it took many hands. However, they kept themselves motivated by chanting out periodically, “Work! Work! The water is near!”  Find water they did . . .so stay tuned as the Mawa community continues this effort to bring water into their village.
