Stopping the Spread of Disease with Education

*DG Village, Nepal

We had a successful dengue awareness programme in DG Village. Dengue is spreading as an epidemic, not only in the Terai region, but also in every part of the country. Many people lost their lives from this terrible disease, but now we understand that every household and community should play a proactive role to limit the infection and spread of this disease. Our Wellness classes taught us that dengue is a viral infection caused and transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. These mosquitoes thrive in standing water, including puddles, water tanks, containers and old tires. Lack of reliable sanitation and regular garbage collection also contribute to the spread of the mosquitoes. We had a group discussion, house to house visit, and a sanitation campaign with the help of Transformational Community Development (TCD) workers and Wellness Committee members.

Success Story

A group member of the Income Generation Committee has experienced success by practising our TCD initiatives. She is 50 years old and she took a small loan which she used to buy a pig to raise. From that, she gained some profit to buy another one, and in this way she prospered in her work and was able to clear the loan easily. She and her family are thankful to GHNI for its help in developing the local community.

Thank you!
