Veggie Sales Ignite Entrepreneurship!

Kiwanjani Village, Kenya

“Transformation” is a concept and word every organisation is utilising because people are desiring to see positive development, not stagnation. GHNI has thus become a source of hope for many families in the Kiwanjani community. The Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons and teachings presented from time to time have challenged their perspectives and given them a renewed purpose for their life. This community is generally poor, solely depending on benefactors or on farming, which is seemingly impossible due to lack of adequate land.

After researching background information regarding this cycle of poverty, we introduced VSLA (Village Saving and Loaning Association) to the people. GHNI taught them how they can use the loan in starting other businesses rather than depending on the occasional benefactor or their small farm which doesn’t profit much.

Mama Risper is one of the beneficiaries who has benefited from this programme. She used a VSLA loan to begin a business selling vegetables to the community. The business has been thriving as she is now able to earn good money to provide for her family needs. Mama Risper, along with other women in the TCD group, is running her business well. She never depends on handouts or other means anymore. Mama Risper is really thankful to GHNI for making her future and that of her family so much brighter.

Thank you!
