Village Benefits from Five Key Areas

DG Village*, Nepal

In our Transformational Community Development (TCD) class, we covered the following topics:

  • House-to-house visits and observation
  • Education programme
  • Income Generation training
  • Wellness programme, including prevention from mosquitoes
  • Water, and specifically the importance of clean drinking water

In DG Village, where we have started TCD, most of the children are not being educated. Many spend their time playing and walking outside. In this village, many of the elders have also not received education.

I'm told by some parents that their children are engaging in bad behaviours. To address this situation, I started teaching TCD classes for children. The children are starting to attend, and I hope these classes will be life-changing for them in days to come.

COVID-19 Prevention

I got the opportunity to share about prevention of the coronavirus to the villagers who are in quarantine this month. I taught them about social distancing, handwashing, and personal health care. I encouraged them to stay in their homes for this period, and taught about the use of clean drinking water and hygienic sanitation, among other things.

Wellness Training: Teaching About Safety from Mosquitoes

In this season, we need to keep our people safe from mosquitoes because they carry many kinds of diseases. In light of this, I have told our villagers to use nets when sleeping. They were also told to keep their homes secure and clean to prevent mosquito bites.

This month I have taught villagers about drinking clean water. Many of them did not know the harm caused by using dirty water for cooking, drinking, and washing. After the teaching, many villagers understood the benefits to their health and were happy to commit to using clean water.

Income Generation

Mun is a 46-year-old woman. She and her husband have a beautiful family of four children. Mun is hard-working, and also very active in our TCD classes. Whatever she learns from our class, she applies in her life. During this COVID-19 lockdown, she has been able to meet her family’s needs by growing a  vegetable garden and selling the vegetables to villagers. Mun told us that she is empowered by TCD classes to do valuable work for sustainability. Before TCD started, she and her husband had no idea how to make ends meet. Now Mun and her family are very happy and grateful for TCD!

TCD Update

  • Food - We encouraged families to grow produce and consume healthy foods.
  • Income Generation - We followed up with the micro-business and goat farming groups. They are doing better. We are trying to bring people back to their normal lives, but some people are afraid to come and talk together and learn about TCD because of the coronavirus.
  • Education - We continued women’s literacy classes and taught about how they can be safe from the coronavirus while their children stay at home. We taught them about discipline as well.

Thank you!
