Villagers Become Agricultural Experts

Didi Hara Village, Ethiopia

Transformational Community Development (TCD) progress in Didi Hara Village is very fantastic. Before we started TCD in this area, the villagers did not have any farming experience. Our vision, in the Borena Zone, was to diversify the people's lifestyle. During the drought, many of the villager's animals died. It hurt to see this because they did not have anything without their animals. They were expecting support from outside, but now, thanks to TCD, they have become agriculture experts. They are producing different vegetables for their consumption and for sale. This condition makes the villagers economically capable. The Agriculture Group and other villagers produce different vegetables and fruit for marketing.

TCD Update

  • Water — There was a short rainy season this month. Last month the Water Committee organised the villagers into groups to make ponds to collect the water. This will help them with water for irrigation and drinking.
  • Food — The Food Committee is working with the Water Committee to develop ponds. They are also using the collected water for irrigation.
  • Income Generation — The Income Generation Committee is working hard, and their business activity is growing. Last month, they took training on how to save money and grow their business.
  • Education — Many of the children wear absent from school due to security conditions. The Education Committee is trying to convince parents to send their children to school. Due to the hard work of the Committee, the results are encouraging!
  • Wellness — The Wellness Committee is working with the village leader to teach the community how to protect themselves from the COVID-19 pandemic. They wear masks in the public area and wash their hands.

Thank you!
