What’s Your Dream?

*U Village, Sri Lanka

We visited the English class in the month of December 2014. We wanted to know the hopes and dreams of the children for the coming year 2015. Our questions to them were, “What do you want to do in the year 2015?” and “What are your dreams when you complete your studies?”

The class spent time sharing their dreams. Many of them want to be teachers to teach the children in the village who cannot afford tutoring classes. Some want to be doctors and nurses, while others want to work for the government. One of them gave a smart answer.

She said, “I want to improve in my studies every year, and would select a job that is highly paid, so that I can help my village children financially.”

We enjoyed speaking to them while they thanked GHNI for having these classes to help them in their studies. They wished us a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Our wish for them was to take maximum advantage of the opportunity given to them to become leaders of the village, helping the less fortunate. We wish them a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2015.

We plan to meet with the parents of this new location and educate them on Transformational Community Development (TCD). We will discuss with them the importance of TCD and how it will help the village in five sectors –Education, Income Generation, Wellness, Income Generation, and Water. We will also discuss the building of the shelter for the math class. The committees have informed us that more children want to come for the tutoring class. At the moment, our maximum is 30 children in two settings. We have now added on a voluntary teacher for younger children.
