Widow Makes a New Life for Her Family
Posted September 14, 2015
Meet Mariya who lives in Alishow Village. She is a 35-year-old woman and has five children. Her husband was a soldier, but he died during the war between Ethiopia and Eretria. As a widow, she is all her children have to help fulfill their needs.
Life was very difficult for Mariya in the previous days. Now, after taking our Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons, she is earning very good money from using drip irrigation agriculture to grow her own food on her own family plot.
Mariya has also influenced her children’s work habits. All of Mariya’s children are now attending school, since she has enough money to pay for their books, uniforms, and fees.
Mariya opened a bank account, and now she has 23,000 Birr (about $900) – nearly 3 years' typical wages! A few years back, it was impossible to save this amount of money. Mariya is very encouraged to keep growing her earnings!
