Women Learn Language and Life Skills

Women’s Empowerment Centres, Afghanistan

The English class students are getting better, month after month. I am personally working to download contemporary English lessons, audio and videos, because our students do not have access to the internet. I am equipping the trainer by giving her about 30GB worth of English contemporary materials to teach the students more effectively.

Meanwhile, we use practical methods. For example, bringing different kinds of fruits and vegetables to the centre so the students can learn their English names. These methods help a lot.  Hopefully, the students will keep on track and continue growing in their language skills.

During a recent visit, GHNI Regional Field Leader Jeff Latsa taught the English class. He fielded many questions from the Afghan students and encouraged them in their endeavor to learn this international language.

The women have asked to have a cooking class at least one or two days a week. We hope to provide some cooking materials and find a woman with cooking and teaching expertise to conduct the class, since their hygiene lessons are going to end soon.

TCD Update

  • Income Generation - The women who are involved in the WEC sewing program make traditional Afghan clothes. They sell them to local markets to contribute to their family income.
  • Education - About 50 girls and boys are learning English language in our WEC, and 40 women are learning literacy, Hygiene, and Birth Life Saving Skills (BLiSS).
  • Wellness - About 40 women are coming daily to learn literacy, hygiene , and BLiSS. These women are trained to check blood pressure without going to a hospital or clinic.

Thank you!
