Working Together to Uplift the Community

DG Village*, Nepal

In this month we followed up with Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons focussing on education for the women’s group. We started by teaching how to read and write, and I’m happy to say they are learning well. As a result of the COVID-19 lockdown, all of the schools are closed and it is a difficult time for the children. We have encouraged them to come to TCD classes in the meantime, and some have done so.

We know that this virus still poses a danger so we are teaching people about prevention, such as the use of a mask, washing hands with soap water, keeping our social distance in public places, and the use of sanitiser.

There is an issue with gender inequality in DG Village so we are trying to teach the villagers the importance of valuing both boys and girls the same way.

Another important focus has been income generation, in which the villagers have been able to progress after TCD Income Generation classes. Most importantly, they are using our seed money and making more through the techniques they have learnt with us.

Lastly, I’d like to share a successful story of a hardworking woman named Saahana**. She is 48 years old and has 1 husband and 3 children. She had many kinds of problems and family needs before she came to TCD class. For example, the family had no income and not enough food. When we started class, she attended regularly and learnt many things from TCD lessons. We provided her seed money, and immediately she started a small shop as a micro business. Her business did well and now she is earning enough from it and helping her family. Seed money was helpful to increase and expand her business and she is becoming self-sustainable.

Thank you!
