Working Toward a Hopeful Future

Harowayo Village, Ethiopia

Megertu, a 35-year-old mother of three children, lives in Harowayo Village. Most of the time, her husband must leave her to travel place to place to look for a pasture for his animals. All the family burdens fall on her shoulders. Before Megertu joined our GHNI Transformational Community Development (TCD) group, she was struggling to care for her whole family. During the selection time, she was the first woman to approach us with great interest in changing herself and supporting her family.

After being selected, Megertu has been a very active member and hard worker. All the group members have harvested three times in the past year, making very good money. Now she has 7,000 birr (about $294) at the bank. All her children have started attending school. No longer dependent upon only her husband’s income, she is making money on her own. Megertu is hopeful for even more positive change to come!
