Young Iranian Woman Serves Community

Women’s Empowerment Centre--East, Afghanistan

After five months, we still await the day when the government will announce the end of the lockdown.  We are not allowed to open the centres until then. The students frequently ask us when we will reopen and our answer is always that we have to wait for the government to announce it.

Shirin* is a 20-year-old student. She lived in Iran with her family for many years. Shirin speaks Farsi with an Iranian accent and also wears traditional Iranian clothes. She likes our Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons and English classes. When we held English classes before the coronavirus outbreak, she attended both primary and middle-level classes.

Meanwhile, Shirin memorised our disease prevention stories. Since the coronavirus began, she has taught women how to wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap and to keep their homes and community clean. She has helped dozens of women keep themselves and their families safe during these challenging times. Shirin also uses pictures and coronavirus awareness brochures from the ministry of Health.

Thank you!
