COVID-19 Relief & Prevention Efforts

The Coronavirus crisis is the greatest global health threat of our lifetime. Almost every person on the face of the earth has had their lives disrupted in one way or another. Whether you have a penthouse apartment in New York City, live in the rainforest of Indonesia, or in a war-torn village in Afghanistan, the threat of this deadly disease has altered our lives.

GHNI is doing all it can to address this deadly disease. Initially we focused our efforts on education and building awareness, teaching hygiene lessons based on best practices from the CDC and WHO. This included hand washing and sanitization to help others protect themselves and prevent the spread of disease. Along with this we distributed thousands of hygiene kits to those who live beyond the reach of the internet - and have had little or no information about this pandemic.

As time has moved on, this crisis has changed and so has our response. Recent articles from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal indicate there is a pending global food crisis. In response, we’ve turned our attention and focus to help address this issue.

As we see the world continue to change because of the Coronavirus pandemic, there are several areas to focus on.

  • Food, though we do some short-term food distribution, we need to help people grow food to provide for their families in a long-term and sustainable way.
  • Clean water is needed for washing hands, sanitization, and drinking to stay healthy and fight sickness.
  • Education through seminars and training has been used to inform communities about Covid-19; teaching them to prepare and prevent this disease.
  • Income Generation, because the poor are the most affected in these situations, they can help provide for themselves by selling extra produce from gardens and learning skills such as sewing to make masks or soap making to benefit their community.
  • The main focus during this pandemic is Wellness. Helping communities, families, and individuals to know how to protect and care for those who they love. We are also providing workshops on emotional wellbeing during this stressful time.

These are the five goals we focus on in TCD or Transformational Community Development. We will help address short-term needs during this great crisis, but with a view toward helping villages move toward long term development in these areas.

We appreciate your partnership in helping those who need it the most.
