In western Nepal, just north of the Indian border, lies Kalali, a region filled with villages encompassing some of the world’s poorest communities. A long history of slavery in the area continues to threaten its families.
School age children in *RT Village aren’t getting an adequate education due to illness or the families need for the extra set of hands to help with chores or additional income. The desperation for income leaves these families vulnerable to trafficking prevalent in the region.
Villagers have been inspired by the progress transpiring in the neighboring *BT Village. Starting their journey toward self-sustainability two years prior, villagers in *BT Village proved that progress could be made. So, in early 2015, RT Villagers set out on their own journey.
Villagers began their journey in the areas of education, wellness, and Slavery Prevention. The community has shown determination to work hard to bring themselves out of the cycle of poverty.
*For purposes of security and well-being, "RT Village" is a pseudonym of the village being helped by this project.
