Addressing Littering with Handmade Trash Bins
March 10, 2023

Moses holds mentoring meetings once a week with hearing-impaired children and young adults enrolled in the Rehabilitation Center for the Deaf in Apir. He has incorporated Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons in his program of activities with the students. Having noticed how the children litter their classrooms and the environment, Moses engaged them last week on the topic of hygiene and sanitation with the assistance of sign language translator, Abiola.
He also observed that there were not enough waste bins in the Center. Moses and Abiola moved the lesson forward by practically teaching the students how to make trash bags with used sacks and pieces of wood. Some of the students said they are excited about the knowledge they gain each time Moses teaches them TCD. It helps them ‘upgrade’ their lifestyles and environments they come from. Moses and Abiola challenged the students to replicate the learning to their families and friends in order to create a cleaner environment.
Thank you,
