HELP FAMILIES IN MYANMAR
Cyclone Mocha hit Western Myanmar on 14th of May, bringing winds in excess of 150mph, storm surge and heavy rains. The community of Myat Hlae, a model TCD village set to graduate from our program this year, took a direct hit from the storm. The local airport has been closed and communication lines are not working properly, but we have heard from our local TCD champion. The lives of everyone in the community were spared, but he reported that every home and every public building in the community of 2500 people was destroyed. In addition, an IDP camp outside the village where 900 people live was also wiped out. Neighboring villages suffered the same fate.
When access is restored, our team will be responding with aid to alleviate the immediate needs (food, medicine, shelter) and in conjunction with the TCD committee in the village, will develop a plan to rebuild the community. This is a strong community. They will recover – and we will be there to help. Please join with us as we stand firm with Myat Hlae.
