What are Empowerment Centers?
Women are often the most vulnerable and powerless members of society. However, they are also often the first to lead sustainable initiatives for their families and community. This is a specific way to lift them up.
CORE ELEMENTS OF EMPOWERMENT CENTERS
BUSINESS AND SAVINGS PROGRAMS
EDUCATION FOCUSED ON ENGLISH AND MATH
NUTRITION AND HOME FOOD PROGRAMS
BLiSS (BIRTH LIFE SAVING SKILLS) MIDWIFERY
HUNDREDS OF WOMEN PARTICIPATING IN CLASSES EACH YEAR
SKILLS TRAINING (SEWING, HAIR CUTTING, ETC.)
How do Empowerment Centers work?
When GHNI begins to work with a community going through Transformational Community Development (TCD), we sometimes establish Empowerment Centers, where we help local women develop sustainable skills to support themselves and their families. They are learning valuable knowledge and tools from Birth Life Saving Skills (BLISS) to decreasing birth-related mortality for women and children, starting and running small businesses, financial management, literacy lessons, and hygiene for family and community health and wellness.
Many women have been the strongest champions of change and transformation in their communities and are growing as leaders among the TCD committees. They are lifting themselves, their families, and their village toward long-term, sustainable, health. Thank you for supporting them!
GHNI has Empowerment Centers in Afghanistan, Kenya, and Turkey! Our goal is to be able to expand into countries like Cameroon, Egypt, and more!
